Dad at 1968 Tony Awards – How Now Dow Jones

In honor of Fathers Day, and since the Tony Awards were last week, here is an actual video of Dad performing at the 1968 Tony Awards. Dad was in both of Tommy Tune’s first two broadway musicals, and this is one of them, How Now Dow Jones. Although Dad played the title role of Jones, it was not actually a leading role.

Dad enters the stage at 3:43. He is the second man that enters from the left, the tall one that’s wearing a yellow jacket in the back row. There’s a closer shot where you can barely see his face at about 4:23. He’s still in the back row, positioned at one o’clock.

Dad’s listing on IBDB

Dad’s birthday is coming up, so he’s been on my mind. I found his listing in the Internet Broadway Database today. I think there might be one other musical he was in, but cannot remember the name of it. Tommy Tune is also in three of these productions. I also found out that there was a 2009 remake of How Now, Dow Jones.

Now I need to find some pictures from these productions. I know I have seen a few online over the years. I even ran across a book in the Glendora Public Library back in my High School days and was very surprised to find a picture of my dad there. It was a random discovery.

In addition to Father Grumble, Dad also had a few of his other recordings remastered just before he died.  There are a couple songs from The Robert DeCormier Folk Singers.  He was a soloist as a vocalist on “Two White Horses” and with the dulcimer on “Go Tell Aunt Rhody”.

There are also novelty songs from Folk Songs of Madison Avenue by The Flagpole Singers, a vocal trio my dad was a member of.

Welcome to Father Grumble

I was recently asked by a cousin to share the digitally remastered Father Grumble recordings I inherited from Dad, and another cousin posted a few images of him.  So, I decided to start building an archive on this site.  Just seemed like the thing to do at the time. 🙂
